Kaleb took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to do. He inhaled with great force and then turned towards the door. He turned the knob very slowly to avoid any kind of noise.
He slowly opened it until he had an opening large enough to peek through. When he did he felt his heart beating so fast he thought it was going to burst out of his chest at any moment.
His eyes began to take in the surroundings, and then he saw it. The creature snoring placidly on the ground was not the Hound, but what appeared to be a small puppy. It was a golden retriever to be exact. It was small and balled up right at the entrance of the elevator; the poor little thing seemed to tremble a little, perhaps from the cold.
Kaleb immediately lost all fear at the sight of that furry creature and decided to open the door to help him.
-Oh, doggy -he said, moving closer to it-. A little dog like you shouldn't be stuck here in this horrible place -Kaleb told it.
When the puppy saw him, it was happy. It got up and it's tail began to move from side to side while it began to make that little classic dog whining, usually interspersed with small barks, with the intention of obtaining food.
Kaleb dropped to his knees and pet it gently.
-Don't worry, friend -he said as the dog licked his hands and stood up to lick his cheek-. I'll get you out of here. Hahaha -the boy began to laugh when receiving licks from the little golden on his cheek; the slimy affection of that little pup was a very comforting sensation-. Come on, we'll get out together, friend -Kaleb told it as he tried to carry it, but when doing this, he realized that the puppy was heavier than he thought. This caused a bit of surprise, but he thought maybe it was because he was tired after everything he had been through. He placed both hands under the dog's front legs and lifted it up. This time he lifted it easily, but it was too much. Rather, it seemed that the dog had risen into the air on it's own and Kaleb's hands only accompanied it along the way. He wanted to bring the pup closer to his chest, but that was when he realized that he couldn't take his hands off it's fur.
