... at the 15th floor.
-No... -Kaleb exhales. As the giant doors open again revealing a room that looks like it came out of a fashion design gallery or something similar, with minimalist decorations, but full of beautiful silver threads hanging throughout the room, in addition to several rolls of ornate silver fabric on both walls. However, the most peculiar thing is that it is full of at least 20 mannequins, arranged in rather curious poses, as if they were dancing those strange works of contemporary dance. Each of them was in a fairly lifelike pose, but none had a face, just a large smooth part where the eyes, nose and mouth should be. Past all of those mannequins, on the other side of the room is a hallway that can be seen to lead to somewhere else.
Kaleb looks at you and swallows.
-Are you thinking what I'm thinking? -he asks you. Then he bravely and cautiously takes a few steps into the room, taking care not to collide with the mannequins. His eyes dance among all the pale, faceless mannequins. Suddenly his foot hits something on the floor. It's some smaller rolls of fabric, so he decides to take a couple and, after thinking about it for a bit, he throws one of them towards one of the mannequins and hits it right in the middle of the face, where the nose should be.
The figure falls to the ground and knocks over another in it's path, and the sound of the two hitting each other and then falling leaves an echo. Kaleb remains motionless, breathing a little agitated, as if waiting for them to react.
When nothing happens, Kaleb presses his back to the wall and continues on his way so as not to lose sight of any of those mannequins. This works most of the way, but unfortunately, when he reaches the corner, his path is blocked by several rolls of cloth and black plastic bags, like the ones used to throw garbage away. Kaleb peeks into one of those bags cautiously and sees that it contains hundreds of dresses, suits, and all sorts of silver attire.
Finding himslf unable to stay glued to the wall, he turns his back to the bags, and then he sees it. A mannequin seemed to have settled down slightly, a very small movement. He stands motionless, raising his hand with the roll of cloth, preparing to throw it in case he has to defend himself. He already knows those things are easy to knock down, so he's prepared. But again, nothing happens.
For a moment he wonders if he imagined it, then he remembers where he is and decides not to let his guard down, moving on. He keeps walking, and being unable to keeps his back against the wall, he only walks with his back to some black wardrobe bags.
Suddenly, a sliding sound makes him alert again. He quickly turns and, seeing nothing, he turns back in the other direction, only to see the arm of one of the mannequins raising up. He was very fast - if he had turned aound a second later he would have missed. But as he saw it move, he realized. About to launch the roll, he perceives that the movement came not from the mannequin, but from one of the silver threads that was connected directly to it's arm. He followed the thread to the ceiling to find it's point of origin. You can see that up above there is a huge distance to the very high ceiling, the top of which you cannot see, since it is completely dark, but you can see that the walls continue on, and in them are small, rectangular holes that look like shelves. containing more mannequins. These ones are wearing the detailed and beautiful garments seen in the garbage bags.
The thread responsible for the movement stirs again and he can see that like this one, hundreds of other threads come from within the darkness of the ceiling. That's when a series of flashes exalt him. They glitter almost like Christmas ornaments. In fact, they LOOK like Christmas ornaments, six of them to be exact. Six black spheres that reflect light and float up there in the middle of the darkness. Suddenly, those spheres begin to descend from the shadows, and Kaleb finally sees that these spheres were not floating by themselves, but were attached to the sockets of a huge spider. It's body was covered in thousands of silvery hairs and it's huge, long legs moved with that peculiar slowness of arachnids as it descended. It drools from it's mouth between those two pincers, and at one point the droplets of slime jump into the air, the two pincers beginning to vibrate, causing the saliva to shoot out like a sprinkler, emitting a sound similar to that of a rattle, the noise slightly metallic.
The spider descends a little more in the opposite direction from Kaleb and uses one of it's legs to lift the two mannequins that were on the ground by the roll of cloth that the boy threw at them. Kaleb takes advantage of this and runs as fast as he can with the intention of getting out of there. He suddenly starts to hear the rattle again and can't help but think that the spider is going to chase him, but he's wrong. The spider doesn't need to work that hard. It doesn't need to move any of it's eight legs to catch prey like Kaleb. This becomes clear when the boy, who was still running with all his might, feels a small blow in the middle of his shoulder blade.
