Kaleb nodded slowly and swallowed hard. Trembling, he took Tabet's huachi dagger in one hand and raised the vial to his mouth with the other, biting the cork with his teeth and pulling.

The boy walked to the back of the cabin, watching the wood of the door turn crimson from the flames on the other side.

The boy knelt, holding the dagger horizontally in one hand. He was ready to shed the Tears of CempasĂșchil.

-I hope it works -he said with a shaky tone.

The flaming door was kicked down by Captain Fuego, who entered the cabin, sword in hand, blade ablaze.

The captain saw the boy pour the tears on the dagger.

-No! -Fuego roared with such rage that fire spit out of his throat and he raised his flaming arm with the intention of burning the boy.

Seeing the incandescent flames spread toward him, Kaleb instinctively closed his eyes. He was sure that his would be the end.

Through his eyelids, he noticed a huge orange light that enveloped him. He thought it would be a matter of time before he felt the excruciating heat of the flames on his body, but it wasn't.

The light, in fact, came from the dagger and it exploded in a flash that spread throughout the entire cabin.

The flash apparently protected the boy from the flames Fuego had thrown at him. The pirate, witnessing that explosion of light, was blinded by the brightness and this caused him to raise both arms abruptly and clumsily. His fire arm burned the ceiling, while his other arm dropped the sword and place his hand over his eyes, covering them tightly.

-My eyes! Arrgh! -roared the pirate, arching up.

The flash of light continued on its way, almost covering the entire ship. It even causd some of the shadow creatures that came into contact with it to disintegrate as soon as it reached them.

Finally, everything lit up in an orange color for a moment, as if a beautiful sunset was taking place in the middle of the cabin.

When the light dimmed nough for Kaleb to see and open his eyes, the boy's jaw dropped open and he couldn't help but let out a couple of tears that trickled down his cheeks. For there floating before him was the spirit of Tabet, glowing warmly with the color of flowers.

-Ta-Tabet -the boy cried.

Tabet nodded and smiled at him, as he used to in life.

-Hello, Kaleb. Thank yoo for coolling foor me.

-W-What? -the boy, stuttering, could only articulate one phrase-. I'm sorry! -he said through tears as he fell to the ground sobbing-. I couldn't save you... I'm sorry -his muscles were tense with sadness and pain.

Suddenly the spirit warrior's hand gripped his shoulder. Kaleb instantly felt warmth inside him. It was a nice feeling, as if having contact with this spirit made him feel that everything was going to be alright. The boy, still with tears in his eyes, looked up.

-It's ool-right, it wasn't yoor fault. I chose that path, I decided to give my life foor yoo and my pee-pool. I have no regrets, I'm gool-add to say it was the right thing to do.

Kaleb watched as Captain Fuego staggered to his feet awkwardly, his eyesight still apparently not coming back.

Tabet saw it too and looking back at the boy exclaimed:

-Yoo won't be able to han-dool him uh-loon, it was good that yoo coolled me. The Tears of Cempa-soo-chool will uh-llow me to be in the pool-lane of the living foor awhile, but not foor-ever, we must hoor-ry, Kaleb... to defeat him, the thoor-ee of us must unite -referring to the boy and you-, we must fight as one.

Tabet extended his hand to the boy. It shone with the sparkle of the cempasĂșchil, bright and warm.

Kaleb nodded and took it. As th mortal's hand touched the spirit's, a light spread to cover them both. When it vanished, the spirit of the huachi warrior entered Kaleb's body.
