The captain approached Kaleb.

-And all thanks to that damned bastard, the putrid and creeping creature that locked us up here like animals... Black Hat.

Kaleb stared at the captain. The boy couldn't avoid the curiosity of wanting to know how the soulless man had met Black Hat and even more why he had locked him up here. The boy believed that someone as cruel as the pirate would be more useful to him outside wreaking havoc in the real world instead of being in here.

-I see you know who I'm talking about... -said the captain with a smile-. That bastard deceived me and my men a long time ago. He gave us unimaginable riches that could not be spent in three full lifetimes. He promised us that he wouldn't take our souls until we used up every last gold doubloon, but the fiend cursed us!

The captain walked towards a nearby table, where various elegantly decorated dishes of fruit and meat were arranged. Kaleb noticed something peculiar when he saw them. These delicacies were prepared in such a way that they might as well have been on silverware, but instead they were on metal and wooden plates. That made the boy look around the place and realize that wealth, gold or jewels could not be seen anywhere.

The boy looked back to see the captain holding a knife in front of him. Kaleb startled, but the captain plunged the knife straight into a huge turkey. He clipped a wing from the bird and brought it to his mouth; he chewed it and then swallowed.

-No matter how much we eat, or the delicacies we taste, the hunger that this thing makes us feel can only be satisfied by what it gave us by the ton: gold! Day after day we feel a hunger for hell itself and we salivate like dogs in the presence of riches that instead of spending we must devour so as not to die of hunger.

-The captain leaned against his food table and picked more food up, examining it with distaste.

-Thanks to the fact that from time to time I can fry a couple of huachi I have been able to maintain my sanity... but my men are succumbing more and more. More and more of them are about to finish their treasures and when they do their souls will belong to that demon, it's just a matter of time.
