It wasn't until late at night, as the crew was returning to their quarters, that Kaleb was again intercepted by Ratchet.

-Good, you arived. Come, come -he said excitedly.

Kaleb was physically and emotionally bruised. However, Ratchet was not, which was why Kaleb followed without protest.

Ratchet seated him with a group of six cabin boys and crew, plus an officer. They were all seated on the ground or on barrels around a central barrel that supported a square board, which served as a table for two candles and some coins.

-Let me introduce the newbie -Ratchet said-. This is Kaleb.

The officer, a bald, muscular man, leaned back with a smug demeanor, then spoke in a gravelly tone.

-You're the huachi boy -saying this, the other pirates laughed.

Kaleb said nothing and just watched him.

-I think he's just the one we were missing -said Ratchet excitedly.

-What makes you think that, Ratchet? -said the officer-. Didn't you see him on the deck? The boy couldn't even defend himself, he looked like a scared, crying little mouse -he replied mockingly. Again, the others laughed.

-Don't judge him so quickly, Bones. He has something special. I can feel it -said Ratchet, with certainty.

Kaleb turned to look at him and then wondered if he knew he could talk to you. He thought about turning to see you but used all his will not to.

Bones, the officer, stared at Kaleb. He then turned to Ratchet again.

-Fine, but if you're wrong, I'll throw you into the beast's lagoon. You, huachi boy -said Bones.

Hearing them call him that made Kaleb's stomach turn.

-How much do you know about this ship and the captain? -he asked.

Kaleb was silent again. His look was resigned and angry.

-Do you know why he let you join just like that? -Bones asked as he leaned in towards him, the candlelight casting a shadow on his cheekbones, nose, and under his eyes.

-For the same reason that he recruited us! -said Ratchet, who was instantly hit in the chest by Bones-. Ouch!

-Idiot, I'm telling the story -he said.

-Ah, yes, yes, I was confused -answered Ratchet.

-Captain Scarlet... -Bones continued, looking at Kaleb again-. He recruited you for the same reason he recruited them -he continued.

Ratchet rolled his eyes, after hearing this, but when Bones turned to look at him he instantly smiled at him as if nothing had happened, trying to avoid another one of those blows to the chest.

-It's because Captain Scarlet needs people like you or them who can go down to the ports and trade with those who buy us spices, weapons or huachi meat, and do other jobs.

That last one did make Kaleb react. His eyes widened a bit, still looking at Bones. His stomach churned so much it made him gag.

-That's because this ship and its crew are cursed. You see, I don't know how long we've been sailing this water for, but it all started with our captain's thirst for revenge. When we were still on the open sea before reaching this filthy prison, the captain was known to be one of the most feared pirates. His personal hallmark was that he set fire to the ships of his enemies.

-That's why they named him Captain Scarlet -said Ratchet, who took another hit from Bones.

Kaleb began to connect the dots, while Bones continued the story.
